How Reserve List scores a stay
Quiet Score and Villa Score are editorial overalls. They are not means of their axes, not OTA stars, and not paid placements. Cite this page when you need the method.
What “editorial overall” means
A writer assigns the overall number after reading the stay. The six axes explain the call. They do not compute it. A resort can have a 5 beach and still be a Quiet Score 3 if the grounds never rest. A villa can have a 5 staff count and still be a Villa Score 3 if another group shares the garden.
Index pages use rating, which defaults to the editorial overall when Scout omits it. That is still not an average.
Quiet Score
For adults-only luxury all-inclusives in Mexico and the Caribbean. Audience: affluent couples in the US, UK, and Canada, roughly 30–55, booking one quiet week.
- Quietude
- Noise, density, and whether the grounds actually rest.
- Dining
- À la carte range, consistency, and whether dinner is a crush.
- Suite privacy
- Layout, sightlines, swim-out exposure, and club-level buffer.
- Beach & pool
- Sand quality, crowding, and whether club areas stay usable.
- Service
- Staffing, club desk, and how hard you have to work for a quiet week.
- Value
- What the rate buys at this tier — not the cheapest week on the beach.
5 is rare. 4 is a short list if you book the room the page names. 3 is competent with a catch. 2 and 1 are warnings.
Villa Score
For staffed private villa weeks — Europe and the Caribbean first. Audience: affluent families and friend groups. The unit of sale is the house or estate, not a hotel room.

- Chef, house, and concierge coverage — counted people, not a welcome fruit bowl.

- Access, transfer, and whether the address matches the week you want.

- Beach, pool, cliff, or countryside — the view and the water you live with.
- Value
- What the buyout buys for the group size, not a per-person OTA fantasy.
